Fiber and Weight Loss

"Fiber makes us feel full sooner and stays in our stomach longer than other substances we eat, slowing down our rate of digestion and keeping us feeling full longer. Due to its greater fiber content, a single serving of whole grain bread can be more filling than two servings of white bread. Fiber also moves fat through our digestive system faster so that less of it is absorbed.

"Meat and dairy products contain no fiber, and refined grains have had most of their fiber removed. To increase your intake of fiber, eat more whole and natural foods, and fewer processed foods."

Go to this great site to read more about the importance of fiber and its role in maintaining or obtaining a healthy weight.

While the ideal is to get all your nutrients from whole foods, most of us don't, or don't always.
We keep metamucil around, and yes it has some sugar/flavor added, but mostly it's a big dose of psyllium husk and it can help straighten out your innards, whether you're too loose or too plugged.
We don't use it according to the label, we put 1Tbs in a cup, add 8-10oz cool water, mix it fast and chug it (drinking it fast makes it so that it doesn't get a chance to get thick and gloppy). Then drink a second glassful of water as well.
It's been very helpful for me the last few months as i've been struggling to stay properly hydrated (nursing + winter I guess) and I keep getting plugged up. TMI, I know, but I'd rather take some psyllium than some pill!
